LG is said to be prepping yet another addition to its Optimus G line of smartphones - one that looks alarmingly like the Galaxy Note 2
A device said to be LG’s next flagship has leaked online, and it bears more than a passing resemblance to Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2.
Said to be called the LG Optimus Pro, it's expected to launch during the first quarter of 2013, perhaps at Mobile Congress 2013, and is designed at picking up where the company’s LG Optimus G left off.
Phone Arena, which broke the story, says the image is authentic. It also confirmed the spec of the device, which is listed as follows: a 5.5-inch full HD display, a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor and a 13-megapixel camera. It also includes 2GB of RAM, 4G LTE connectivity, 32GB of internal storage, a microSD slot and a 3,140 mAh battery.
Over in Japan the G Pro version for NTT DoCoMo actually got announced recently with a 5-inch Full HD display and 3,000 mAh battery, says Phone Arena. There was, however, word of another device – one with a 5.5-inch display – that LG wanted to launch inside the first half of 2013.
The device in the image is said to be that device.
LG hasn’t commented on the leak and we know nothing about the handset’s availability or whether it’s coming to the UK. LG has focused less and less on the UK in recent years after losing continual market share to HTC, Samsung, and Sony.
Nevertheless, with the Optimus G, Nexus 4, and upcoming Optimus G Pro, LG looks to have shifted gears taking the fight direct to Samsung and Sony. More information regarding launch regions and availability will become clear later this month at MWC 2013.
If the Optimus G Pro does launch before June it will launch alongside the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4, Sony Xperia Z, and HTC’s M7. That’s some serious competition right there. No wonder LG’s been taking some pointers from Samsung’s design team.
